Field Notes from The Way

The Ultimate Experiment

FearJoy

Your bubble is more important than you may realize. What I am about to share can be proven in a scientific manner, but it must be done by you. No one else can tell you or show you. That is by design and is fundamental to the hypothesis. So don't take my word for it, test it. You can approach it practically without requiring that you believe me. It's worth the test.

We all know about our bubbles and echo chambers—or, at least, we should. The thing is, it's more powerful than we realize and it's why no one else can show you the data. Our bubble is like a tint of glasses. If I show you something yellow while you're wearing blue-tinted glasses, you will see something green and think I'm insane for calling it yellow. You literally cannot see the evidence from someone else and you literally cannot see yellow while you wear the blue glasses. And the trick is that you don't know you're wearing blue glasses and won't believe me that you are when I try to prove it.

So let me explain the test and I hope you are willing to try it out. From a practical standpoint, psychology supports the behaviors of the test so you have nothing to lose there. It's simply a matter of effort. Here we go with the hypothesis as the backbone of understanding what you need to do.

Each of us individually contribute to what we see occurring in the world by manner of our emotional expectation. Stay with me, as you can test this for yourself. Just like in a dream, if you fear something is going to happen, you might very well make it happen in the dream. The same goes for this world. Again, bear with me. You're looking at yellow and seeing the green of insanity. But just give it a try and see for yourself.

You literally cannot see the evidence from someone else and you literally cannot see yellow while you wear the blue glasses.

Firstly, ignore all fear. Understand that this isn't a removal of caution, but of consternation. I'm not saying that fearing a dragon will make a dragon appear, but that fear itself makes destruction in general occur. You can afford to take a few weeks off from fear. So do it. Fear contributes nothing beneficial to our ability to act. So first and foremost, choose to ignore fear under all circumstances. You may not get the things you want, but fearing loss doesn't prevent it and it often makes it more likely. So remove the fear. Choose to trust that trust itself will provide the best possible outcomes. It won't make money fall from the sky, but it is scientifically proven to be the better choice to not give in to fear. Trust that your trust in things working out—no matter the outcomes—will give you the best chance of things actually working out. And what I am telling you, is that this trust is even more powerful than what science realizes. This is part of the test to see for yourself. Ignore all fear and see what happens.

When you ignore fear, remove control, and focus only on the joys around you, you will create a bubble of love and safety.

Secondly, remove all desire to control the behavior of others. The behavior of others, the beliefs of others, the perceptions of others, are all outside our direct control, but they are influenced by our bubble. If you can, at least for the next few weeks, assume that anyone you'd be judgmental toward is simply lost, confused, and hurt. Like frightened animals, they aren't going to bite you unless you try to handle them. They are all simply lost in a system that shaped their own bubbles and put these glasses on them unaware. They cannot see the yellow and shoving it in their face will do no good while they're similarly wearing blue shades. Removal is a choice only they can make when they feel safe enough to give it a try. And how can they feel safe enough? By the bubble of safety you are now creating around you. Don't worry about their opinions or accusations. They're stuck with their blue-shaded glasses and cannot judge accurately. Ignore it, and do not fear them. See them with compassion for their glasses corrupting their vision.

Thirdly, collect positive emotions like Pokemon. Seek them. Find them. Collect them. When you ignore fear, remove control, and focus only on the joys around you, you will create a bubble of love and safety. I mean this literally but invisibly. You can see the effects when you do this. Your own peace and joy will increase. This part is known by science already. But the magic to be aware of is that people around you will soften and events you might consider bad will end up working in your favor. This is the real evidence. The more you do it, the more you will realize how true it is. No manner of other people telling you this works will convince you. It will appear as anecdote, denial, or wishful thinking. Keep your scientific mind all you want. Keep your grounded rationalism. As you continue this experiment, you will find yourself growing to think, "Wow, maybe there is truth to this. At the very least, it is making me enjoy life more." This is the logic that keeps the pursuit that keeps you expanding your field until you absolutely know it's real. No one can do this for you but you.

The caveats:

  • Feel free to share the experiment, but do not share your experience until you are secure in knowing it's real. Having people scoff at the green when you show them yellow will be a detriment.
  • This isn't actually easy to do. Your mind will come up with so many reasons to believe this is insane and not worth trying. Use this as evidence that your glasses are fighting you. They don't want to be removed. This test has required nothing but to ignore fear, take joy, and not try to control people. Why in the world would your internal voices tell you this is stupid? Your glasses are fighting you making it all the more obvious they exist.
  • This isn't easy to do. It's not a decision you make once. You must actively pursue the positive feelings. Cater your environment in ways that you will take joy and, where possible, reduce noise that you know works against this. Ruminate on this test constantly. If you do not, the glasses will take back over on auto pilot until you realize you stopped performing the test. Just begin again though without beating yourself up. You have glasses clouding your vision, after all. It's expected.
  • Lastly, this isn't easy to do. Our identities are so focused on what we want, expect, and demand, that events around us control us by default. You don't have to believe that this experiment is all-powerful, you simply need to know for a fact that fear is always detrimental, that focusing on joy is always more beneficial than focusing on negativity, and that people are indeed outside our control. These are absolute facts that require no unsupported faith. Do not lose sight of this.
If you succeed at doing this, you will begin to feel your bubble and you will literally see your immediate vicinity changing around you. To better understand the science supporting this, please read Your Mind is Made of Voices available freely in digital and audio formats. Knowing the science will aid you in performing in the experiment.

There is more to come when you recognize your bubble is real. Reach out once you do or if you have questions. Remember: go with the FLOW.
